How we can help you

Our business is split in to three keys areas, each offering our clients a one-stop solution to their fire door needs

1

Survey

This will identify your obligations for fire protection doors and egress routes, standards which will be review during this process may include Approved Document B Volume 1 & 2, BS9991 and BS9999.  Given the historic nature of the building there may not be a perfect match in terms of compliance, however, the fundamental principles of the codes with be referenced.

The review will consider the various risk profiles, directions of escape, number of escape routes, doors widths and expected occupancy levels.  The review will provide risk profiles of areas under different uses and will provide a suitable approach in terms of fire safety, this will highlight doors which should be assessed for upgrading and future monitoring.

Building work

Upgrading of current fire doors (that are eligible) and any others than are currently not fire doors. As mentioned above this can be a very complex process, door leaf’s that are already close fitting within the frame maybe present less challenges.  Applying the intumescent system to the door leaf is only a small part of the process. Doors hinges will most likely need to be changed, ironmongery will need to be reviewed, self-closure devices fitted and adjustments maybe required in order that gaps between the door leaf and frame are within accepted standards.  This is usually a gap of no more than 3 to 4mm, if fitted with cold smoke seals, then this gap should also be found at the door threshold, therefore in some cases doors may need to be fitted with drop smoke seals.

Audit

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, often referred to as the FSO, applies to all buildings other than domestic housing, and replaces 118 pieces of previous fire legislation, including the old fire certificate. The law now shifts responsibility from the fire authorities for fire safety to whoever has day-to-day control of premises.

Our service contract will ensure that a paper trail exists to evidence that such checks are being undertaken, time frames can be adjusted to suit your needs, where doors or ironmongery are found to have sustained damage or misalignment then this will form part of our report, our service can include any required remedial work and a new certificate of work completed.  Each door will have its own digital fingerprint in terms of initial upgrade work and the on-going maintenance.
